Valve Reveals First Gen Steam Machines At CES Show

This is the day a lot of PC gamers have been waiting on – the list of prices, specs and approved manufactures of the first generation of Steam Machines! Announced at the CES event the Linux powered machines, which utilise Valves new operating system, have been priced between $499 (so we will expect £450 in the UK when you include tax?) and up to a Gabe God level price of $6,000. The official manufactures list include:

  • Alienware
  • Alternate
  • CyberPowerPC
  • Digital Storm
  • Falcon NW
  • GigaByte
  • iBuyPower
  • Maingear
  • Material.net
  • Next Spa
  • Origin PC
  • Scan
  • Webhallen
  • Zotac

For a full list of systems and prices, head over to Steams official list.

I’ve had a flick through the list, and got to say am impressed with the lower price ones …but $6k! Really on what planet?! Could be tempted buy the Zotac which is not a bad price and look quite nice but no spec announced for that one as of yet.

What do you think? Do the prices tempt any console gamers to go Steam?
