Star Citizen hits $24 million in pledges. Shows off ultra-HD in-game footage
Star Citizen, the next game from Chris Roberts (creator of the legendary Wing Commander and Freelancer space and combat simulator series’) has confirmed that the game has hit $24 million in pledges after releasing a dazzling video showing (he assures us) an “100 per cent in-engine” dog fight – all displayed in a eye watering ultra-HD 4K resolution (3840×2160).
With $24 million in pledges now this also unlocks yet another funding goal for the game. This time Chris and the Star Citizen team are adding a “galactic transportation system” for those without a ship (including star liners and charter ships) on top of the many already achieved goals.
The online game will see players not only pilot a ship, but also traverse it, explore planets and cities and engage in first person boarding actions to take over other ships, bases and orbital platforms. In addition to the online component, gamers can take part in a single-player campaign progressing through a branching narrative with optional drop-in multiplayer allowing friends to join as wingmen/wingwomen during the story.
