Candle Coming to Wii U
A kickstarter project originally intended to come to just the PC is now heading to the Wii U, and I think its one game to keep an eye on.
Candle, which has been successfully funded on Kickstarter, is described by the developers as a ‘dynamic graphic adventure with handmade visuals’ and certainly the hand drawn graphics, done in water colors and ink, do impress. The game is shaping up to be a platform puzzle game with features inspired by games such as Abe’s Oddysee and Heart of Darkness. The main character, Teku, has a candle in place of a hand and this will play a key part in solving puzzles and uncovering secrets.
Although it was not originally intended to come to the Wii U unless they reached the $85.000 stretch goal on Kickstarter, the developers, Teku Studios, have been approved as Nintendo Developers and its clear on their page that the game will be coming to the Wii U regardless of that financial goal. From their page it appears that the Wii U version will not just be a port, that they will use the controller to add unique features and gameplay, ‘we are already thinking about dedicated gameplay on Wii U – we are not doing any kind of quick port’.
Candles unique visual style plays a large part in making this game stand out for me, and although its another platformer coming to the Wii U, I think it will be a great one and hopefully we will see it make good use with the controller. Personally I think Indie games like this may make a lot of difference on the view of the Wii U for gamers.
Candle is aiming for a January release in 2014.
