BugBear’s FlatOut Follow-up Crashes. Ends Kickstarter Early
BugBear the makers of the amazingly fun FlatOut series of racing and demolition derby games has pulled its project, simply dubbed “The Next Car Game”, from Kickstarter. The game was to be a ‘spiritual successor’ to the FlatOut racing games and included the wrecking fests of Destruction Derby mixed with some serious vehicle upgrading the likes of that featured in Street Rod.
Having generated over $80,000 of pledges for the project (but still a way off its goal of $350,000), an official statement had been posted on the Kickstarter page explaining that although the campaign had attracted tremendous enthusiasm, it had become clear that they were not going to meet the goal. With this the company decided it was best to “concentrate efforts on the pre-order campaign” via the official website.
Check out a technology preview of the title, and the original Kickstarter video below:
Those that are still interested in the project can pledge support via the official website for early access (coming “late 2013”) and the finished game (Early Spring 2014).
If funding allowed it, plans include a version for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, however it looks like for now we’ll just be seeing it on Steam for PC.
What do you think? Have you played FlatOut or remember the Destruction Derby games from the PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, etc.?
