Behind The Scenes Of Assassin’s Creed 4’s DEFY Trailer

Back on 20th August, Ubisoft released a live action trailer for the next game in the popular Assassin’s Creed series. The ‘DEFY’ trailer shows a pitched battle taking place on board a Spanish Galleon as the Spanish forces attempt to hold off a group of pirates, rather unsuccessfully.

Ubisoft have followed up this video with a behind the scenes look at how the live action trailer was created. The trailer aims at capturing ‘the true values of the brand: authenticity, idealism, and exploration’. Ubisoft worked alongside Sid Lee in order to provide a trailer that would look to emphasize ‘the darker aspects of liberty’.

The video moves through each level of the ship as the soldiers attempt to survive the onslaught representing ‘the struggle for freedom’. As the camera passes through each level of the ship, it is meant to be passing though different levels on the way ‘to the ultimate liberty’. The lowest level for instance, has soldiers attempting to escape from the rising waters but are held back by the pirates whereas on the upper levels, the soldiers can at least attempt to fight back. This ‘ultimate liberty’ is finally personified at the end of the video with Edward standing upon the mast.

The multi-award winning directer, Adam Berg, directed the film and has done a fantastic job of creating the authenticity and action that Ubisoft sought to show through the trailer. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is set for release between 29th October to 1st November for current gen systems and November releases for the next gen versions.

What do you guys think? Loving the trailer? Let us know in the comments!
